“The Price is Right” Goes Green

No need to adjust the color on your TV set tomorrow when watching “The Price is Right.” The popular CBS game show is going green for a good reason—-Earth Day.

In observance of the global tradition, Wednesday’s episode of “The Price is Right” will feature environmentally friendly prizes including cellphones made of recycled materials, solar charging equipment and a recycling cabinet.

Adding another shade of green to the mix will be tree hugger Ed Begley Jr. The famous actor/environmentalist will introduce a showcase that includes an electric bike, golf cart and Toyota Prius hybrid car. In addition, trips offered during the show will be paired with donations to offset carbon emissions.

Also, doing their part to help preserve the environment are CBS soap operas. According to CBS execs, “As the World Turns,””The Young and the Restless” and “Guiding Light” will salute Earth Day with earth-friendly storylines. Plus, Lesley-Anne Down of “The Bold and the Beautiful” will appear in a public service announcement encouraging recycling and other planet-saving exercises.

“More than ever there are things that we can do that are really simple to do,” CBS execs told reporters last week. “We can do that as people who supply entertainment. We are a powerful tool for messaging. I just wanted to remind people that it’s very easy to keep this in your consciousness as you go through your life.”

Not to be outdone by the eye network, NBC is also going green to commemorate Earth Day. The peacock network is delivering environmentally friendly programming all week.

“Today” is running daily segments on renewable energy, while Jim Cramer plans to continue his talks about “green” stocks on CNBC’s “Mad Money.” NBC’s late-night programming is also going green. “Last Call with Carson Daly” is featuring segments on organic skateboards and composting.

Happy Earth Day!
