Jack is the firefighter in the O’Malley family. He thinks nothing of dashing into danger to pull out people who have been trapped in the roaring flames. He feels a strong sense of obligation to serve wherever he can, and doesn’t think about the possible danger to himself while he’s doing it.
Cassie Ellis is a firefighter on his same team. She was caught in a horrible blaze and lost the hearing in her ear, and hasn’t been back on the job since. She and Jack have been good friends and they stay in touch, but they aren’t co-workers anymore. Cassie just can’t.
Jack knows Jennifer’s secret, and it’s destroying him. His beloved sister is dying from cancer, and she’s going to each brother and sister to tell them she loves them and to ask them a very hard thing: to accept Jesus Christ. Each of the O’Malleys were dealt a hard blow with the deaths of their parents, and they had each decided that there was no God. But now Jennifer is asking them to change their minds, to trust a Being who had taken their parents from them, and to learn to give their hearts over to Him. Jack doesn’t know if he can honor his sister’s request.
Meanwhile, a serial arsonist is on the loose, and targeting Jack’s unit. Jack’s furious at the danger his friends are being subjected to, but doesn’t know who’s behind the fires or how to bring it all to an end. But then Cassie sees the arsonist and holds the key they need to unlock the mystery once and for all. Jack now must protect the woman he’s grown to love from the arsonist, who is bound to strike again, and this time at Cassie.
Cassie is a Christian and understands why Jennifer wants Jack to open his heart to God. Can he save her life, and can she save his by helping him learn about Jesus Christ?
