The Psychic and the Rabbi: A Remarkable Correspondence

Have you ever heard of Uri Geller? He is apparently famous for being able to perform alleged paranormal feats, such as bending a spoon with his mind or having a seed sprout in his hand. How about Rabbi Shmuley Boteach? He is a rabbi and author of many books, including the controversial “Kosher Sex.” What do these two have in common? Well, correspondence between the two is revealed in their compilation entitled “The Psychic and the Rabbi: A Remarkable Correspondence.” A Jewish friend recommended this book to me, and from his description I felt compelled to read it — for religious reasons and out of pure curiosity. I am glad that I did.

Both men express themselves in ways that I can not describe. While Rabbi Boteach always writes in a tone that reveals him to be a father, Geller is always the questioning child and pupil. However, they both teach each other a number of things. For example, Uri Geller speaks of meeting aliens and an experience that John Lennon allegedly had with aliens. Even though Rabbi Boteach does not believe in such things, he never once chastises or mocks Geller.

I was not just compelled to read this book because I am a fellow Jew, but I am also always interested in hearing about the way religious figures see G-d. Rabbi Boteach and Geller often get into “conversations” about G-d and how each man should be loving G-d and trusting in Him. I found these conversations particularly inspiring, mostly because although Geller was raised in the Jewish faith, he is a non-believer. This neither deters Rabbi Boteach nor disturbs him because Geller is open to his teachings and advice.

If you would like to feel inspired — whether you are Jewish or not — I highly recommend reading this book. The profound wisdom of two men in such different ways is incredible to experience. You do not have to believe in paranormal phenomenon or even the Jewish faith to be moved by this book. I do promise, however, that it is possible that this book may change your views.

“The Psychic and the Rabbi: A Remarkable Correspondence” is available at most major book retailers, including Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
