The Race for President

Not for the White House, but to the White House… from say… New York. Which of the candidates do you think would win? Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama considers himself to be a fitness fanatic. The rail-thin senator from Illinois is a self-proclaimed basketball nut, who enjoys daily runs. According to his website, the 6’1” former high school (and briefly in college) basketball team member plays a game of hoops with staff members everyday, in addition to lifting weights.

Meanwhile, potential John McCain running mate Mitt Romney is said to be an avid runner as well, logging about 3 miles at least three times per week. There there’s shamed former North Carolina senator and presidential candidate drop out John Edwards, who actually made a name for himself on the campaign trail as being one of the most physically fit candidates out there. Edwards calls himself a “running addict” having completed five marathons and making time to run about 5 miles every day. In addition, the avid exerciser also plays weekly basketball and football games and coaches his kids’ soccer and basketball teams.

If you are looking for some real competition in a road race consider pitting Edwards against Mike Huckabee, who also runs 5 miles a day. The former Arkansas governor has reportedly finished four marathons and plans to take on the New York Marathon this fall. The veteran politician is famous for shedding 110 pounds from his rotund 280-pound body after he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2003. Though, he is still notorious for packing on the pounds on the campaign trail.

Democratic vice-presidential nominee Joe Biden would probably opt out of a foot race to Washington. He will be the first to tell you that he’s not a gym rat, but considering that the Delaware senator suffered two aneurysms in 1988, can you really blame him? That said, according to his website, Biden works out with weights and walks a couple of miles each week per his doctor’s orders.

So if the foot race to the White House between the aforementioned politicians took place today, who would you put your money on?
