The Right Holiday for Your Marriage

Are you taking the right sort of holiday – the one that is right for your marriage? The reality is when it comes to holidays, not all of us want or need the same sort of thing.

For some people, in a busy lifestyle with a marriage where both partners are working long hours, the answer may be a holiday at the beach or somewhere they can just relax and not do a lot at all. It can be a time of renewal, of recharging the batteries and being able to spend more time just enjoying each other’s company. But that is not the type of holiday that will suit everyone.

One married couple was heard to remark after a holiday like this, ’ we don’t do holidays well.’ In other words they found that on holidays because they had all the extra time to spend together and talk which they often did not have time for in the rest of their busy lives, they then argued more. Hardly a relaxing holiday.

They needed to consider whether they would then be better to have a holiday where they are racing around sightseeing rather than relaxing. But is shelving the communication and relaxing together problem the answer? Or raising more problems? Maybe the answer lies more in learning how to bring communication into their everyday lives on a more regular basis, so it is not such a shock to the system during holiday time.

Others, might need a holiday where they are sightseeing and finding things to do because they simply don’t handle sitting around reading a book, lazing on the beach or doing nothing well. But if you’ve got a busy lifestyle and opt for this sort of holiday it could only make increase stress levels because to never get a chance to relax and feel like you have had a holiday at all.
