The Secret to Enjoying Life

My calendar this morning says ‘the secret to enjoying life is to be thankful for what each day brings.’ Are you enjoying life? If not, the fault could be that you are not looking to find the blessings in each day. No matter how bad things are there is always something we can thank God for. Here’s my notebook of 10 blessings from the last 3 days.

1. Church music practice this week was so good. We sang ‘Shout to the Lord.’ This song has a lot of meaning for me. The last time I sang it at church was in December 2006 when God clearly showed us this was the area we were to move to and the church for us to attend. Now I can sing it as part of this congregation. That’s exciting! Another song reminds us that our hope and salvation is ‘In Christ Alone.’ That’s a great blessing.

2. Our Bible study is so much fun as everyone shares what they are learning from God’s Word and the study of 1 John. What a blessing that group is and the way people feel free to share their prayer points and thoughts. No one person dominates the group. Close friends in that group are such a blessing.

3. Several days of getting stuck into rewrites of my novel which is at a stage I wanted to get to by the end of this week. I have to put it aside now to prepare a writing workshop for next week.

4. Two book reviews I was able to send off – one for a children’s book and one and adult’s book. They’d been waiting a while to be written.

5. Great comments from another writer who read ‘The Goanna Island Mystery’ with her 8 and 6 year old girls. Now the 8 year old wants to write a review of it. How cute is that!

6. Sunshine. It’s been so wet here lately. It’s lovely to see the sun and go out walking yesterday with my dear husband and the two dogs down the lake.

7. Putting washing out yesterday and having it dry in the sun

8. I scalded my hand this week. It’s a little red and sore but it could have been so much worse.

9. As always for my relationships with the Lord, my husband, family and friends. They’re a blessing and joy every day of every year.

10. This week the words of a song we sang last Sunday stayed with me throughout the week. ‘How great is our God, sing with me, how great is our God.’

I’d love to hear the blessings you can praise God for from the past few days.
