The Secret to Enjoying Married Life

The secret to enjoying life is being thankful for what each day brings.’ That’s what the anonymous quote on my calendar for today says. While I agree with that, maybe for the purposes of this blog, we could change that to read ‘the secret to enjoying married life is to be thankful for what each day brings.’

One of the things that is great about my husband is that he is thankful for the things I do for him. Yes, I did make his pie yesterday, even though I hate making pies and things that require pasty. I hate having to mix the pastry by hand. Yuk! I hate the feel of it and getting the dough under by my finger nails. Before I had to go on a wheat and gluten free diet, I used to use the frozen pastry to make life easier but now there doesn’t appear to be a frozen gluten free equivalent. Note to those out there in the food marketing business- given the number of people these days on wheat and gluten free diets this is a perfect opportunity for someone.

Anyway, so I mixed up the gluten free flour and other ingredients and made the pie. It was worth it though to see how Mick enjoyed it, along with the mashed potato which went with it. Mashed potato is not my favorite way of eating potato. But Mick likes it. I could not only see by his face he enjoyed his dinner but he made a point of thanking me for making it and told me how tasty it was. So I felt the time and effort involved was appreciated. And isn’t that what we all like, to feel appreciated?

So next time your spouse does something for you, let them know how thankful you are. There’s nothing like being appreciated to make us feel more inclined to ensure we will want to do more things to please our spouse. So concentrate today on your spouse’s good points and the things they do for you and be thankful for them and let them now you are thankful for them and why.

Of course I’m sure the rest of us would also love to hear your reasons, whether they are big or small things, of why you are thankful for your spouse.
