The Skinny on Skinny Water

Drinking lots of water is one of my ‘tricks’ for optimizing weight loss. I find that it gives me something to do (instead of reaching for food), fills up my stomach so I am not as hungry, staves off cravings for sweets (often times a craving for sweets is really thirst), and keeps me from drinking my real favorite drink: soda. Diet gurus have also reported that drinking ice cold water causes your body to expend calories drinking it because it has to warm the water up. Water is surely the perfect no calorie drink.

However, there is a newer and ‘improved’ water on the market called Skinny Water. Skinny Water makes the claim that it is better than water because it helps you lose weight. What’s the difference between plain old water, and skinny water? Skinny water has added hydroxycitric acid. According to one Georgetown University Study, hydroxycitric acid is found in certain citrus fruits native to Southeast Asia and it makes the native cuisine “more filling.” Apparently they have a bitter taste and thus, I assume, is the reasoning for ‘flavoring’ the water.

How It Works

You are supposed to drink a bottle of Skinny Water 30 minutes before you eat and it will suppress your appetite and also it supposedly stops the absorption of carbohydrates. I have read numerous reviews and I have yet to hear something that says this is the weight loss product to beat all weight loss products. On the other hand, there are thousands of people willing to have severe diarrhea by taking a weight loss pill so water that doesn’t really work isn’t nearly as bad. If you’ve had a good experience with skinny water and it has helped you lose unwanted pounds–let me know in the comment section below.

Some Contradictions

One thing that sends out a big red flag for me is some contradictions on their website. At one point they claim:

Jana Skinny Water is made with a specially processed natural artesian water with a hint of fresh lemon (patent pending).

Yet later in the website they claim:

The essence of Jana Skinny Water’s pureness lies in the fact that nothing comes between you and Jana… Bottled at the source, Jana natural artesian water is not altered or processed in any way.

So it’s processed or unprocessed water. This processed or unprocessed water is all natural from an all natural spring where it’s bottled at the source. I guess that’s until they have to add the sour tasting fruit (which may I point out is no where near the ‘source’ of the water?) which tastes so sour that then they have to add flavoring to make it palatable. Confused? I am.
