Why did you get married? The standard answer might be because you fell in love and wanted to spend the rest of your life with your spouse. And that is a key thought. There are so many social benefits of marriage. Are you taking advantage of them?
When you are married, you have a built in companion to do things with. While there is nothing wrong with going to the movies alone, it is nice to be able to enjoy a movie with someone else.
Over time, you can find things that you enjoy doing together, of course, but it is also important to be able to be introduced to new experiences by your spouse. So maybe you never thought that golf would be fun, but if you spouse wants you to try it, go ahead! Likewise, don’t put aside things that you might like to do. Ask your lifetime companion if he or she will accompany you on adventures that you would like to try.
Having a built in companion can make even the boring routine parts of life more fun. Going to the supermarket or washing the car can become a fun event when it is spent with someone that you love and who knows you so well.
Your built in companion can also have great health benefits, especially if you are a man. Men who are married tend to live longer than their single counterparts. One reason for this may be the ability to share the stresses in life and have support.
The social benefit of marriage even extends to the greater world. Imagine having to walk in to a new social situation or challenge all by yourself. It is much easier to do when you have a supportive companion. And just being married may give you a social edge, since you may seem as a more stable and trust worthy person.
What are some of the other social benefits of marriage?
