The Television Exercise Game

If you are familiar with any aspect of Pop Culture then you may or may not have heard of the various drinking games associated with different pop culture shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Star Trek: The Next Generation and more. While I am not endorsing the alcohol portion of the game, I am going to shamelessly steal the idea for a great television exercise game that we can play!

Exercise on Cue

Choose your exercise du jour of the evening. Perhaps you’d like to do sit ups, push-ups or bicep curls. Whatever exercise you want to choose for this game, make it something you can perform in one revolution. Now, know what you want to do? Great.

Here are your rules – you choose a television show that you enjoy and I’ll give you a few suggestions below. You will then perform your exercise whenever a certain action occurs during the television show.

For example, say the show you choose is the new Battlestar Galactica (or the old one for that matter) – you will perform your push-up each time a character says frak.

Are you laughing?

Good, because you actually burn 3 to 10 calories for every chuckle you emit. The more you chuckle, the more calories you burn.

Show Suggestions

  • General Hospital – Do your exercise anytime someone says Jason’s name or a violent incident occurs
  • 24 – Do your exercise anytime someone is tortured
  • Gilmore Girls – Do your exercise anytime someone makes a pop culture reference
  • Lost – Do your exercise anytime there is an unexplained occurrence of something
  • Smallville – Do your exercise anytime there is a close-up of Clark’s eyes
  • Stargate SG-1 – If you’re watching repeats with Richard Dean Anderson in them – do your exercise anytime he says CARTER in an exasperated tone
  • Bold & The Beautiful – If Ridge is on, do your exercise anytime he says Logan or Mother
  • Star Trek: The Next Generation – Watching repeats or DVDs? Do your exercise anytime Wesley saves the day
  • Star Trek – Any variety – do your exercise when warp, dilithium crystals or other engineering feat occurs

These are just ideas – of course – and while you may not get the best exercise routine out of it – you will get a lot of fun and you get the idea – if you can make your television watching work for your exercise program – these are a few ways to make it fun and entertaining at the same time.

What shows and action suggestions can you think of?
