There are some great holiday deals out there, but giving in to temptation can put you into debt. Here is how to take advantage of those deals without hurting your finances.
We have been spending a lot lately. From replacing clothing that is falling apart to a new pink Barbie bike we got at the thrift store, money seems to be pouring out of our hands lately. Add to that the fact that our big grocery shopping trip was this past month, and it has gotten me a little bit nervous.
Next month will be a lean one for us, as I am sure it will be for many others. That said, there are many “great” after holiday deals out there that could be taken advantage of, with merchandise 75% or more off. Retailers are definitely hurting, despite our personal spending spree so there may be more deals to come.
We were in Target the other day to pick up some underwear and tights for my daughter. Underwear is one of those things that I am snobby about, and we don’t buy used. Tights are usually too worn and hopelessly dingy to get handed down. So, those was a reasonable items to have on a shopping list.
While we were at the store, my husband spotted a nice new high definition television for less than $1,000. This was truly a great deal, and it got him thinking. “Hmm,” he said later. “This might be a good idea for the living room. I haven’t seen prices on these televisions this low.” Yes, it is true that it was a good deal, except for the fact that we really don’t need a television. We have a nice one in the family room we can watch, and a small one to play vHS videos on for the kids in the living room.
With an extra television also could come and extra cable bill, extra energy savings, etc. And of course, the price of the television. We decided to pass. It would only have been a great deal to us if we had really needed or wanted that item for a long time.
Please check back later today, when I share some of the secrets I have learned for dealing with the temptation of after holiday sales.
