The Top Ten Reasons Why I Love Exercising in the Summer

What would a top ten-list day be without the positive spin on my top ten reasons why I hate exercising in the summer? See, those are my thoughts exactly and in the spirit of summer and Friday and fun, here are my top 10 reasons why I like exercising in the summer.

No, they are not exactly the same as my top 10 reasons why I hate exercising – well – not exactly.

10. It’s hot. That means I get to wear shorts quite comfortably along with tank tops. Cooling off after a workout is easier in the winter, but you don’t get people looking at you cross-eyed for wearing shorts when it is summer time.

9. Sports are popular in summertime. It can be fun to watch the kids get rowdy outside either kicking the soccer ball around or bouncing the basketball. The great thing about kids is they don’t care if you are good at a sport, just that you play with them. Either way, it’s a lot of fun.

8. Horseback riding in the summertime is best enjoyed when the sun is coming up or when the sun is going down. It’s cooler in the early hours of the morning or the late hours of the afternoon; you get a great view of the sunrises and sunsets.

7. Iced tea, ice-cold water and sprinklers. Summertime is hot and cold drinks and cold water feel even better when they are extremely cold.

6. Soaking up the sun – have you ever seen a cat basking in the sunlight by the window? I enjoy the same thing in early morning yoga – provided the sun is not directly in my eyes.

5. Evening is a great time to settle on the back porch with tiki torches. I want to get one of those great wicker basket chairs that you can sit and meditate in while the crickets chirp and the flames on the tiki torches crackle.

4. Outdoor cycling is a great option for my daughter – she’s really getting into riding her bike and I’m enjoying the time spent together with her and the better she is getting at her riding, the more I get to wear roller blades to keep up with her.

3. The swimming pool is a great place to go and watch the kids have a good time, while visiting with their neighbors. Swimming doesn’t have to be laps, it can be games of Marco Polo and mermaid games with the midget. I also enjoy the time sitting in the shade around the kiddie pool while she splashes and plays and I get to read a book.

2. Weight training in the garage may be hot, but since I like to work out early in the morning – it can be a great way to get the exercise in before the heat of the day hits. It’s also a great way to make sure you don’t skip your exercise because it’s done first thing.

1. Finally, the number one reason I love exercising in the summer – I like how I feel when I exercise – winter, spring, summer or fall. I get to feel charged, healthy and great – and it doesn’t matter if I’m a size 2, 10 or 20 – it’s how I feel that’s important.
