There are many people who work in a school. When thinking about schools, most people think of a principal, teachers, and students. However, the faculty and staff and management of a school go far beyond that when it comes to the people that make it successful.
A school is made up of a principal, teachers, and students. It also has educational assistants, cafeteria workers, custodians, maintenance personnel, bus drivers, secretaries, guidance counselors, and nurses.
All of these people contribute greatly to the make-up of the school atmosphere and the success of the students.
Like they have about teachers, society and the public’s eye have many myths and untrue ideas about how these people contribute to the education of a child and the future of our world.
Education support professionals like the ones that I listed above are in most cases dedicated workers. The average ESP worker has been at their current job for ten years or more. They are experienced at what they do and enjoy their job.
Paraeducators (teacher aides or educational assistants) are actually involved in helping and academically assisting the teachers and children with teaching and learning. They do not sit and color, draw, cut, and copy papers all day long.
Many people that are not familiar with the set-up of a school think that custodians only sweep and clean-up spills. However, custodians are responsible for the school’s overall appearance. They are in charge of keeping up the grounds outside of the school, which can be seen by everyone. They are in charge of ensuring that the rooms are safe and healthy for the children. They take care of any pest control needs. They observe student behavior. They ensure that the teachers and students have paper towels, soap, and other needs that are required. They take care of new furniture installation and old furniture removal.
