The Ultimate Christmas Present for “Knight Rider” Fans

Is there anyone who watched the popular ’80s TV series “Knight Rider” and didn’t want to have a KITT car of their own?

I remember watching the show as a kid with my brothers. During the commercial breaks my two oldest brothers would grab their own Hot Wheels vehicles and pretend the cars could talk just like the black 1984 Pontiac Trans Am that helped David Hasselhoff escape the bad guys on TV.

If I were independently wealthy I would try to make my brothers’ boyhood dreams come true this Christmas by purchasing one of the original KITTs for them.

The “Knight Rider” car is up for sale on eBay and one bid for the $20,000 minimum has already been posted. According to car experts, there were only four souped up versions of the car made specifically for the television series, including the one being auctioned on eBay.

The talking Trans Am is being sold to satisfy the debts of slain real estate developer Andrew Kissel who reportedly owes $30 million to various creditors. Kissel was a car aficionado and acquired KITT prior to his unsolved death last year.

The “Knight Rider” car up for bid on eBay right now is not the same one that was sold be a California auto dealer in April. That car was another original KITT-—a 1982 Trans Am that was fully restored and had documentation as one of the four “camera cars” used for close-ups. Basically, it was the car used for scenes where Hasselhoff, who played Michael Knight, appeared behind the wheel.

According to the dealer involved in that sale, that KITT car sold in July for about $100,000, down from the asking price of $149,995.

As for the 1984 version of KITT, which is currently up for sale, Kissel’s estate manager says the millionaire bought his KITT from an auction house for $69,000 in 2005.

So, if you have a few extra grand to drop on that special someone who has always dreamed of owning their own KITT car–now’s your big chance. The online auction site says pictures are available of the car to verify its authenticity so you know you are getting the real deal.

How much would you be willing to pay for KITT?
