The Unthinkable Happened

The unthinkable happened. In the middle of cooking a meal the other night, our crock pot died.

It was working when I’d turned it on and when I checked an hour or so later. The next time I went to add another ingredient, it was cold. I had no idea how long it had been off. I hastily transferred the meal to a casserole dish and put it in the oven.

As I thought about it, I got more than my money’s worth out of my slow cooker. It must have been a good twenty years old and has plenty of use.

So we started looking at getting a new one. But we’re not buying one. We’ll get it with reward points from our card. So we had a check around of the types of slow cookers available these days and found out you can get ones that you can brown meat in the same appliance. Now that sounds to me like a good idea. They also come with timers that can be set, instead of what we had which was a separate timer if we wanted it to turn on when we were out.

Our last slow cooker was only small and I see now they come in much bigger sizes. We figured we didn’t need to go to a massive one since there are only two of us but one a little bigger might be in order for when family comes or when we have guests or want to take a meal to a church function.

Crock pots are great for that as you can take the meal in the pot it has been cooked in and then if need be just plug it back in for a little whole. It saves a whole lot of people trying to put things in microwave or oven at the same time. As all you need is a power point. But most times that’s not even necessary to reheat as it will stay hot enough.

Yes, I’m looking forward to getting my new slow cooker. I might even find some new recipes to adapt and share with you here on the food blog.
