The Vacuum- My Nemesis

I may have mentioned a time or two that I really dislike vacuuming. I don’t know what it is but to me it’s the most pointless thing I do in my home. I know it ‘s not, I know vacuuming keeps the carpet clean and extends it’s life, but I don’t like it.

Believe it or not I actually scrub my kitchen floor more often than I vacuum, and I do it on my hands and knees. There is no logic to my likes and dislikes.

I kept telling myself it was the vacuum I disliked and not the actual vacuuming. When I was younger I had a Dirt Devil canister vacuum that was the best vacuum I ever used. Since then, for various reasons, I’ve had uprights. I thought if I got another canister vacuum I would vacuum everyday, and sing joyfully while I did it.

So, I bought another canister vacuum. It has not lived up to my expectations. Now every time I have to vacuum I dread it even more because I don’t’ feel like this vacuum does even a mediocre job.

Not being made of money I’m pretty much stuck with this vacuum. I’ve started a change jar earmarked for a new vacuum. I can’t wait until it’s full. The dilemma is, how do I know a good vacuum from a bad one?

Being the cheapskate that I am, I will not ever, in this life, and under my own free will, pay $500 for a vacuum. That is insane. Everyone tells me how wonderful those vacuums are but for that kind of money it should be self propelled, make me dinner and put itself away when it’s done.

I wish I could test drive a vacuum. Kind of like a car, bring it home, take it around the living room a few times, try out the tools, put it through it’s paces. Sadly, they frown on that and I just don’t have the heart to keep buying and returning vacuums.

What is your vacuum of choice and why do you like it? I could really use the help.
