You’d think she would learn from their mistakes… but maybe she has and this is her way of taking a good idea and putting her own spin on it. I’m talking about actress Jennifer Garner’s idea to pitch a talk show described as “The View” for mothers.
According to news reports, Garner and former “So You Think You Can Dance” host Lauren Sanchez-Whitesell are putting together a televised chatfest for moms by moms.
“We’re pitching it next week to a network. I call Jen the Barbara Walters of the show. She will come on periodically. We haven’t quite settled exactly [how often], but she’s the executive producer,” Sanchez-Whitesell told reporters at a recent charity event.
Sanchez-Whitesell (who happens to be married to the guy who represents Garner’s actor husband Ben Affleck) says she would serve as the show’s primary host. Meanwhile, Garner would act in the same capacity that Barbara Walters does on her successful ABC daytime talk show. Basically, call the shots and appear on air from time to time.
So what exactly will viewers see on a show that’s “like ‘The View’ but for mom?” According to Sanchez-Whitesell, show topics will likely include how to get your kids to sleep, how to choose the right school, and how to keep your marriage together after having kids. She also hinted that Garner might reveal unknown secrets about her own high profile marriage.
“Jen might talk about how you keep a marriage together when you’re in the spotlight with a child. She’s photographed picking up trash in her front yard, she’s photographed doing everything,” Sanchez-Whitesell added.
I know what you’re thinking: Will Garner’s new venture include the presence of one freshly booted (okay, technically she quit) member of the real “View?” At first I thought Rosie O’Donnell would love to get her hands all over this project, but then I remembered the outspoken talk show host likes to run things her way, so it’s unlikely she would ever join another ensemble cast. However, I think current “View” co-host, the pregnant Elisabeth Hasselbeck, would make a fine addition to Garner’s new show. I think she should take the gig and then Walters can try to lure Lisa Ling back from Oprah.
