The ward christmas party is only 3 weeks away. I’m starting to feel the pressure a little bit, and feel stressed out. I have a lot to do. But, the key to having a successful party comes down to one word: Delegation.
In the church, we all have so much on our plates with callings and our own personal lives, but people usually feel they can help out in some small way. That’s why, this year I divided everything up for our party into the following committees:
*Food
*Decoration
*Table & Chair only set-up
*Kitchen Clean-Up
*Gym Clean-Up
*Caroling Leader
You can call a committee leader for each one, and then that person will be responsible for reminding, and making phone calls to make sure everyone shows up to fulfill their responsibility that they signed up for.
We want to make sure that three people aren’t stuck there until midnight trying to clean everything up. So, we decided to have separate clean-up committees. The Elder’s Quorum in our ward are responsible for any clean-up in the gym, and the Sisters from Relief Society are taking care of the kitchen clean-up. People who may bring food are not allowed to clean up. That’s a rule that we are trying to implement this year. That way, most of the burden is evenly distributed.
Another idea that you could try for your clean-up crew is to get with another ward in your stake who is having their party on a different night than yours, and swap clean-up duties. In other words, you clean up after their party, and they clean up after yours! It’s a genius idea really. That way, everyone gets to enjoy the party the night of, sit back and relax, and most importantly, go home when it’s over!! We didn’t get organized in our ward in time to do that this year, but I think it’s a great idea that I would love to use in the future.
Whatever your party plans are, make sure that you have your committees in place to help. It will make your evening go a lot smoother, and help you to relax a little bit.
