I am stressed. I am not going to lie. The ward party is less than two weeks today and I have so much to do. I have sign-ups galore to deal with, and reminding people, making things, and doing the decorations. We have food to shop for, and caroling groups to coordinate, gifts to buy for the band that is playing.
I wonder what the Bishop was thinking? I am such a high stress person. A worrier. I worry constantly about little details that the night of, no one will even notice, except me. Well, maybe there will be a member or two that might notice, but they will quietly pretend that they don’t. Hopefully.
But, after saying all that, I have to say how excited I am at the same time. Things are going to be so much fun, and hopefully it will be a ward party that they will always remember. We have 8 youth that are all set to serve dinner to us. We have women signed up to donate decorations. We have women signed up to help clean-up, make the food, and assemble plates. We have men who are setting up tables, and cleaning up the gym afterward. So, why am I stressing out? Probably because in the church, when we are given an assignment like this, so many people are depending on us. 100-150 to be exact. Whew. That’s a lot of pressure.
One thing I really wanted to create this year was an ambiance. I didn’t want it to feel like you were in a gym in a ward building. But, the budget is tight, so the big plans I had aren’t going to come together. However, we are going to do something a little different. We are hanging paper lanterns from the ceiling, and stringing Christmas lights around the border of the gym to give some low lighting. We will hopefully have enough lights to turn out the stale florescent lights from overhead. Here is my hope: That the kids will behave. That people will feel like they are in a special place. That it will be a nice dinner that everyone will enjoy. That it won’t feel like the same big, orange gym that we are always in. My hopes are probably a little too high, but a girl can try right?
Now, if only my to-do list when start getting check marks instead of growing. How to solve that problem?
