The Week in Review: September 9 –15

Welcome to our week in review. This week saw the fifth anniversary of September 11th and all the memorials, sadness and tales of heroism that entails. While it’s important to remember, it’s also equally important that we continue forward, making our world a better place so that hopefully none that come after us have to experience a similar tragedy. Here is your Week in Review for Fitness:

September 9

We talked about Walking – is it better to do it incrementally or all in one go. There are multiple schools of thought on this, but as with all forms of exercise and sports, the type of walking and how much you do is based largely on your desired goals for the exercise.

September 10

We talked about the Power of Positive Thinking – Make It Work For You and how you view not only your circumstances, but also your environment and yourself can have a lasting impact on your success both fitness and otherwise. We also talked about Stress Busting for Men & Women and how they are both alike in experiencing stress, but that there are ways for both of them to cope and overcome stress.

September 11

Today is the day that we remember the tragedy that occurred five years ago. We remembered in Five Years Later: Let Us Take a Moment… where I recounted my memories of that day and what happened. Five Years Later: The Aftermath took some time to reflect not only on the day of September 11th, but also the days that followed.

September 12

After a day of such sadness on September 11th, we got back into the game with Kids & Strength Training with advice for parents on how to understand the fitness demands on our young and when and how strength training might benefit them. We also discussed the 10 Reasons You Should Strength Train as a partial response to the post from last week on the 10 Reasons You Should do Cardio Every Day. Among the top reasons to strength train are to tone, shape and enhance your figure. Finally, the last article of the day addressed your Personal Fitness – Make It Fit Your Personality and how you can find the fitness and exercise choices that mesh more with your own personal style.

September 13

Exercise = Weight Loss, Right? We talked about the great job Catherine is doing over in her Diary in the Weight Loss Blog as well as the keys to understanding how and why exercise can help a person with their weight loss goals. We talked about Green Tea and whether or not the effects of it are as beneficial as promoted as well as Raspberry Water – A cool and Refreshing Alternative for people who want to drink more water, but prefer a different flavor to standard water.

September 14

We spent the day focusing on Happiness is the Key to Fitness Success and addressing the fact that when a person is happy with what they are doing and with who they are, they are likely to be more successful in their fitness goals. We discussed Brain Fitness: Understanding Why We Need It, Brain Fitness: Exercises to Improve it and Brain Fitness: Learning Something New – it’s important to recognize that our brain fitness is as important as our physical fitness and there is a lot we can do to affect it.

September 15

TGIF! It’s Friday, and we talked about Do You Bosu? The Bosu ball is a great addition to any home gym and helps you work on core strength as well as other forms of exercise. Kaye Siders shared a great guest post on Want an Easy, But Good Workout? How About Walk Away the Pounds? She’s a Firm believer and she loves The Firm workouts. She shares her experiences and how walking is a good basis to any exercise program. Finally, we talked about our Friday Fitness Motivators: Five Ways to Motivate your Success and Friday Fitness Funnies: Laughter Does a Brain Good and how laughter not only makes us feel better, but it actually is good for us.
