Maybe it’s the hair, the eyes, or the fact that we’re both females with similar DNA, but from a very young age my daughter has been told that she looks just like me.
Me, as in her very old mother, not me, as a child.
Personally, I think she looks exactly like I did as a 7-year-old.
Oddly, my mother doesn’t see the resemblance at all.
A couple of years ago, someone asked us if we were sisters.
Granted, the person asking was a very, very elderly woman, but that didn’t stop me from kissing her feet.
Needless to say, “mini me,” is an expression my daughter hears a lot of.
While we may have similar features, my daughter most definitely has a mind of her own… and a mouth that never fails to surprise.
Here are a few of mini me’s more memorable quips:
Re: My job as a work-at-home mom: Daughter vs. the computer
DD: “Mommy, let’s play Connect Four.”
Me: “Just a second, honey. I have to finish this project.”
DD: “Your work is so annoying. Just tell them you’re dead.”
Re: Bedtime
Me: “Get back in bed and go to sleep, young lady.”
DD: “I can’t. I can hear you out there.”
Me: “You wouldn’t hear me if you were asleep.”
DD: “My ears are on all the time.”
Re: Dressing Up
Me: “You look gorgeous in your new dress.”
DD: “Thank you, but can you put this earring on me? I want to be a real lady.”
Re: Pears
DD: “Do you like pears, Mommy?”
Me: “I sure do.”
DD: “I like pears too.”
Me: “You do?”
DD: “Well, I sure like to touch them.”
Re: Driving snakes
Me: “Whoa! Be careful with that car you almost ran over my foot.”
DD: “My snake is a bad driver.”
Me: “Yeah, snakes are not very good drivers.”
DD: “Well, this is a talking snake. He has hands.”
Me: “Really.”
DD: “Yeah, but he drives with his tail.”
