There’s Got to Be a Sense of Fun

First of all, I do not subscribe to the theory that work is supposed to be unpleasant. In fact, I think that the more fun and pleasantries in a work environment, the better. This is not to say that I think it should always be a piece of cake, a walk in the park, or that work should be a bunch of sitting around and cracking jokes–but I do think that one of the strongest motivators is a sense of fun.

A sense of humor makes everything better. It just takes the edge off of the daily grind of life and what could have more a “grinding” feeling than trying to build a small business from the ground up? We’re isolated in our homes, we’re likely trying to juggle all sorts of responsibilities, many of us are holding down outside jobs at the same time–things can start to feel pretty heavy and have a real drudgery to them. The cure? Fun. Humor. Laughter.

If we’re not having some fun at our home-based businesses, we really do not have anyone to blame but ourselves. After all, there is no boss or co-workers to blame for sucking up our time or being nasty in the workplace. Sure, we might have a houseful of kids or neighbors knocking on the door wanting our attention–but can there not be some fun in that? And, likely, there is no one around to watch if we decide to dance a jig or do something silly in the middle of a stressful day just to lighten ourselves up.

One of the main perks of running your own home business is that things don’t have to be horrible and miserable–inject a little bit of fun and let yourself feel the stress relief of a good laugh and a cultivated sense of humor–it makes it all seem worth it!
