Unless you were living under a box this weekend, you could hardly miss the thud of the third Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End landing on multiplex screens all over the country. Fair warning parents, I don’t know that this movie is just the right thing for the really little ones. According to my husband who saw it with his co-workers on Friday, there’s a scene at the beginning where pirates are being hunted down and killed, including kids who were working with the pirates.
He wasn’t expecting that opening and I have to admit, I was a bit surprised when he told me that. Overall, the third movie in this trilogy was worth it – but everything in the film took it up a notch from the hijinks to the danger to the love triangle and more.
Order a Medium Drink
The movie runs about 2 hours and 47 minutes long, so be careful how much you drink while you’re sitting in the theater or you may have to run out. No telling what you’ll miss in the minutes it takes you to dart into a bathroom and back again.
As of today, Monday, May 28th (Memorial Day) the movie has already taken in $142.1 million dollars. It’s already taken the record for best Memorial Day weekend and the weekend itself isn’t over. It didn’t break Spiderman 3’s record, but then again it comes at the tail end of a month that saw Spiderman 3 and Shrek 3 already debut, so one can say the competition out there is pretty fierce.
Ahoy, Matey – Will You See Pirates 3?
I’m torn, honestly. I’ve been looking forward to seeing the film since I saw Dead Man’s Chest last summer, but the idea of sitting in a movie theater for 2 hours and 47 minutes (make it 3 hours when you throw in all the previews) doesn’t really appeal to me. Luckily, my husband has already seen it, so I can take a rain check for when the DVD comes out.
Did you catch Pirates this weekend? Or are you waiting until later?
