Visiting teaching is such a blessing in so many different ways. Although it can be difficult to set up the appointments or to schedule a time to receive your visits, there are so many benefits when you do make the time. Here are my five favorite aspects of visiting teaching.
First I love the friendships that happen as a result of visiting teaching. I have made friends with those who visit me, and the sisters that I visit. The great thing about this is that often I would not reach out to these sisters on my own, because they are at a different phase in their lives and we don’t meet much outside of church.
Second I love everything that I can learn from the sisters. I learn from each person involved with visiting teaching. I learn things from my companion, from the sisters I teach and from the ones that visit teach me. As we talk about life, I can pick up things that work for their families and see how they apply to my family.
Third I love that visiting teaching gives me the opportunity to serve others. It is an opportunity to stop thinking of my problems and concerns for a little bit and focus on others. The chance to take in a meal or to spend time listening is a great opportunity, and we can take advantage of it each month.
Fourth I love the spirit that comes with visiting teaching. We are meeting together as members of the church and we take time each visit to share an uplifting gospel message. It gives me the opportunity to focus on the gospel with others outside of church during the month.
Fifth I love knowing that I have someone to call if I need help. I can always count on my visiting teachers when I am in a pinch. The fact that they are there brings me comfort and peace of mind, as I strive to manage the rough times in my life. It is nice to know I have people who care for me and can support me during difficult times.
