As I sit here, waiting for the pumpkin pie to come out of the oven so I can turn the heat up to 400 and put in the apple and cherry pies, my mind of course wanders to all the things I’m grateful for. They are too numerous to mention, from warm clothes to a house to my children and husband, freedom in this land – I won’t even try to name them all. But a few things I will name, gladly.
I am grateful for books. When I look back at all that has been done to deliver the written word to us, from the monks that used to spend hours upon hours transcribing volumes by hand just so there would be copies, to the inventors of the printing press, to the print-on-demand and e-books we have today, I feel immeasurable gratitude for all we have been given. We have books on every subject, written in every style, to keep our minds active and our hearts fed.
I am grateful for the wide selection of books. We live in a land where we are free to choose whatever we want to read. You all know me well enough by now to know that I’m pretty straight-laced with my reading choices, but if I were to hop off the wagon, I would be free to do so.
I’m grateful for my job here at Families.com. Honestly, I get to sit here and tell all of you about the books I’ve read and why I liked them, and it really doesn’t get any better than that. It’s the perfect outlet for my book compulsion.
And I’m grateful for all of you, for reading my blogs and welcoming me into your warm, friendly group. I’m still fairly new, having only been here since August, but I feel as though I’ve made good friends here and I look forward to feeding those friendships and continuing to torture you with my ramblings.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone, and be safe.
