I’m having one of those nesting sort of days. It is rainy and a bit colder outside. I’m still recovering from a nasty bout of bronchitis that snuck in with the weather change. Our youngest child, still at home, is particularly rambunctious, despite waking up with his own runny nose this morning.
It is definitely a day for home comforts.
One thing that makes me feel better on days like this is giving a little extra attention to our home to make it a nicer place to be. This might involve venturing into the scary recesses of my kids rooms and straightening up, putting fresh dryer-warmed sheets on the beds and banishing some stubborn clutter. Truthfully, I’d like to curl up on the couch with a cozy book, but when the house isn’t at its best, I get distracted.
The other thing that makes me feel better on days like this is to do some baking. A warm oven with the wonderful yummy smells filling up the house just feels like a warm blanket. It can’t be any every day baking either, but the baking of something special, probably holiday related.
So that is why the washer and dryer are going, and my little one and I prepared two pumpkin pies that are just now baking in the oven. It feels good to bake one of my family’s favorites. In fact, the reason for the two pies is that my thin husband can practically eat one whole pie himself. It may take him two days to do it, but do it he can.
Of course, pie for desert only means that dinner must be worthy. I’m not sure what I am going to prepare, only that it will involve a loaf of fresh bread and some sort of comfort food. As you can tell, it is that kind of day.
What do you do when you are in a settle in at home mood?
