There’s nothing like shopping for Halloween candy in Target while being stared down by Rudolph, Frosty and Santa in all their inflatable glory.
Given that Christmas displays have been up in various stores since the beginning of the month, I didn’t see it inappropriate to blog about holiday gift ideas in the days before Halloween.
If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em, right?
Conformity seems to spreading this year. Believe it or not, we’re thinking pink around here this Christmas. Thanks to a delightfully charming treasure chest of Pinkalicious goodies, my true-blue, anti-frou frou daughter is looking at life through rose colored glasses.
For the past few days my six-year-old has been obsessed with the contents of Pinkalicious: The Perfectly Pink Collection. The box set made its debut in stores just a few days ago, and it’s already become a must-have for Christmas 2010.
The precious pink box contains three popular Pinkalicious tales: Pinkalicious and the Pink Drink, School Rules!, and Tickled Pink. All of the books are standard size; no shrinky pinky watered-down versions here. The same soft cover, full-color Pinkalicious publications that you’d find on store shelves are tucked inside a re-usable box along with a large color-it-yourself poster featuring the poster child of Pink herself, plus three doubles-sided crayons and dozens of perfectly pink stickers that have fast become some of my daughter’s prized possessions.
The sticker sheets feature various scenes from the aforementioned titles, including Pinkalicious with her pet unicorn Goldie; Pink with her pal Alison; and a ton of pink treats, from sweetheart cupcakes to pink lemonade. There are even a few stickers of Pink’s brother Peter, plus mom and dad.
Pinkalicious: The Perfectly Pink Collection makes the perfect holiday gift for your princess in training. What’s more, the set travels extremely well, which makes it ideal for taking on long car rides or flights to grandma’s house this holiday season. I love that everything is self-contained. There’s no scrambling to find a container for the crayons and stickers or fumbling to find a rubber band to bind the books together, so they don’t end up scattered around the minivan. Rather, the pretty box doubles as a catch-all for all things pink.
Like most kids her age, my daughter turned the packaging into a plaything. In addition to keeping all of her Pinkalicious items in it, the box is now her secret hiding place for tiny treasures.
You can find Pinkalicious: The Perfectly Pink Collection at major book retailers or online at HarperCollins.com.
