Think Spring

It’s hard to think about spring when your yard is buried under a foot of snow. I can’t wait for winter to end. I’m over scrapbooking snow, bare branches, Christmas trees and other winter-themed items. I’m itching to get working on spring layouts. One of my favorite spring activities is picnicking. My family loves eating outdoors and I often document our meals with my digital camera and incorporate the shots in bright and cheery layouts, such as:

Ant Theme: Weird, right? Not so fast. The page was inspired by adorable ant-shaped stickers and die cuts I found on sale at the end of last summer. The store had them on clearance and they were too cute to pass up, so I made a scrapbook page with photos from the picnic and placed the ants in zigzag single-file lines. I also used an ant-shaped rubber stamp, though you could draw the ants with an acid-free marker if you are artistically talented, or you could print your own ant stickers using computer clip art.

Red Checks: This is another design I found at an end-of-the summer scrapbook sale. Red and white checked scrapbook paper is easy to find and makes the ideal backdrop for a picnic theme layout. Mind you, we didn’t use red-checked cloths at our family reunion, but it worked nonetheless. You could use a beach blanket backdrop if you can find it at your local store or online. I used the red checks and embellished it with red frames around the photos. I also used a bunch of picnic basket and picnic table stickers. Finally, I purchased some cute die cut utensils and dishes to add to the page. Another great way to employ checkered paper is to make a grill layout. Simply purchase a die cut grill or stickers and use them to embellish a page with your husband, dad or uncle manning the grill during a summer family cookout.
