This Week’s Crafts at a Glance: Oct 9-15

I hope you like this week’s ideas.

Costume Tips

Making costumes is fun but it can be challenging sometimes, depending on how elaborate you want to make it. As our family expanded, I began opting for quicker, easier ideas and things I could pull together rather than creating from scratch…

Styrofoam Ball Pumpkins

You can use any size Styrofoam balls for this project, and if you mix and match different sizes, that’s even better. You will also need some orange and green construction paper, black if you want to cut out eyes and stuff, scissors, glue, and some straight pins…

Costumes: Little Red Riding Hood

This is one of the simplest costume ideas you will find. There are two options to choose from, depending on what the weather is like for Halloween this year…

Cute Halloween Costumes

Boxes are great for making costumes, and here are three simple ideas you can make from ordinary boxes, a little paint, and some creativity. Check out these super simple, but cute as a button ideas for pairs of trick-or-treaters or partygoers:

Harvest Party Scarecrow Costume

What better way to get a little more use out of an old pair of jeans that has seen better days, than to make it into a scarecrow costume? The more rips and tears and worse for wear, the better! Sew on or iron on a few patches just for details, and then add some straw or raffia peeking out from the bottom of the pants legs. Tie off the bottom of the pants (loosely) with some old rope or a piece of clothesline rope or twine.

Crazy Costume: Basket of Clothes

This idea is cute, easy, and affordable. Pick up a cheap laundry basket at any dollar store. If the cheap ones seem a little flimsy, that’s okay in this case, because you want to be able to move and you’ll need to cut out most of the bottom and cut out arm holes.

Put some clothes in the basket. You can use rags or old clothes and attach them to the inner sides of the basket with a little glue to keep them from falling out the bottom…

Snowman Costume (or Snow-woman)

Grab some white sweatpants and a white hooded sweatshirt, extra baggy. Take in at the waste if necessary, but they should be pretty baggy everywhere else. Stuff the pants legs, the shirt sleeves, and the “belly” of the shirt with fiber fill. If you’d rather use other materials, have your child wear other clothes beneath the sweats to protect skin. Then, crumble up newspaper, tissue paper, etc., and stuff them inside…
