You can change the mood of your room just by rearranging the furniture. But don’t just haphazardly place things any which way until you find something you like. Instead, why not take advantage of one of three distinct styles. These furniture placement ideas work to create a mood or solve a problem in the room. Read on to see the three options and then try them out for yourself.
A Room with Focus
If your room seems blah and needs focus, then try this style. Find an organizational point. An organizational point is anything that you want your eye to be drawn to in the room, or anything that creates an anchor in the room. An organizational point often tells everyone about the function or mood of the room. Some good choices for this organizational point include a fireplace, a fantastic piece or art or an interesting architectural feature. Arrange your furniture so it draws attention to this point.
A Room that Soothes
Symmetry is a great way to make a room that is soothing and inviting. There is just something about a symmetrical room that makes everyone relax and feel comfortable. With a soothing room, you want to balance out the room, so that the focus is really the balanced flow of the furniture. Some ideas for symmetrical furniture arranging include placing two smaller sofas facing each other, placing end tables on each end of a sofa or flanking a table with two matching chairs.
A Room without Wall Space
If your room lacks wall space, it can be difficult to decide where to place your furniture. Windows, doorways and built-ins can all take up valuable wall space. You might be tempted to place the furniture in front of all of that, blocking windows, etc. Don’t. An easy solution is to group the furniture in the center of the room. Use smaller pieces to prevent feeling cramped. This will also create intimacy in the room. Angle the furniture arrangement to make it interesting. An area rug will also help define the space.
