Three Reasons to Check Your Cart Before You Check Out

After spending time going through the grocery store, the last thing you probably want to do is to take even more time out before you check out and head out. But, checking your cart before you get everything rung up is a smart idea. Here are three reasons to check your cart before you check out. It just may save you some money.

Impulse Buys

As you are passing through the aisles, you may see something that looks like such as great deal that you just don’t want to pass it up, so you add it (or several copies of it) into your cart. By the time you finish your shopping, you might be surprised to see how many things you were going to buy that weren’t on your list.

Take the time to ask yourself if you really need those items. If they weren’t on the list originally, then chances are that you just really don’t need to buy them. If you can’t live without those extra things, get them out of your cart before you pay for them.

Things that Mysteriously Jump in the Cart

I don’t know about you, but when I am shopping with my kids or my husband, a lot of extra things seem to mysteriously jump into the cart, so it is good to check. Sometimes you have to buy these things anyway–my husband works hard, so I’m not going to argue about a box of snack cakes, for example–but you might be able to match a coupon or check for another brand that is on sale.

Wrong Item for Your Deal

Matching up coupons and sales at home can sometimes not translate clearly when you are in the store. For example, many flyers don’t always specify size or type. You could be losing out on a deal and not even know it. Take the time to double check that you have the right items for your deal before you check out.
