When we read Mark’s gospel we see that there were three things, which made it possible for Jesus to triumphantly enter Jerusalem. Those three things were
1. Obedience,
2. Sacrifice
3. Worship
Jesus was obedient to the Father’s will. He knew what awaited him in Jerusalem but he willingly went forward to Jerusalem as the sacrifice for our sinsMark 10:45, Philippians 2:6-8.. His whole life was one of obedience and worship of His Heavenly Father, It is because of what Jesus has done in giving his life for us that we are able to enter into a relationship with the Heavenly Father.
As well as that of Jesus, there were other examples of obedience that led to the triumphant entry into Jerusalem. There was the obedience of the disciples who obeyed Jesus, who followed his instructions and went and fetched the colt for him to ride, Mark 11:1-4.
There was the obedience of those who owned the colt and who willingly allowed it to be used in the service of Jesus, Mark 11:5-6. Each of these was faithful in the small tasks. Are you and I obedient in the small tasks God requires of us?
There was not only the impending sacrifice of Jesus but the sacrifice of the crowd who threw down their coats and had them trampled under foot. The sacrifice Jesus is asking of us today might be our time, our energy and service to one of his people. It might be money or some other thing. Will you stop and ask Jesus now what he requires of you today and then obey?
The last requirement is worship. The crowd worshiped Jesus as he entered Jerusalem. We need to do as they did in this instance and take time to worship our Lord, not just one on day as they did and not just on Sundays when we go to church but each day. A good way to start each day is to start with worship.
If we follow the pattern of obedience, sacrifice and worship then we too will be able to live a triumphant Christian life.
