Thrift Stores Rock!

Did you know that there is a great way to save money that can also help you to keep a cleaner house? Your local thrift store can be a great place to get things that you want or need for prices that are better than you could imagine. The thrift store is also a great place to bring items that you have in your home that you no longer want or need, things that are just taking up space and creating clutter.

Of course, you may not be able to find everything that you need at a thrift store when you need it. That should not deter you from going there on a regular basis to look around. Even if you walk out of there empty handed most of the time, when you are able to find one or more things that you have been wanting to get you will be saving a lot of money. Some people may even be lucky enough to live in an area where there is more than one good thrift store. If so, your chances of finding what you want when you want it are even greater.

There is a great thrift store in my town. I have only found a few things there for myself over the past few years, but I have gotten some great things there for my son. He is fifteen months old now, and I have gotten many new-looking pieces of clothing for him at the thrift store. Baby and children’s clothing are great things to buy at thrift stores because often the items are so gently used that they look almost new. Some of the items have even been from high-end brands like Baby Gap and Osh Kosh. My three favorite items that I have gotten for my little boy at the thrift store are a reversible winter vest from Baby Gap, a pair of little work boots that look just like the kind the big guys wear, and a plaid fleece coat that his Auntie got there for him.

Other good items to look for include toys, cds to keep your music collection fresh, DVDs, and kitchen appliances. I’ve gotten a few nice cds at the thrift store, as well as a very nice wooden shape sorter for the little man. On the flip side of things, I have also been able to declutter my home by donating many bags of items to the same thrift store. While I have saved a few of my son’s outfits that he has outgrown as well as a few toys, many baby items have left my home and will hopefully be enjoyed by someone else’s child. Whenever I am cleaning and I come across something that is still in good condition but I no longer use it or love it, it goes into a bag in the trunk of my car and I drop off the bag the next time I go by the thrift store. I am definitely enthusiastic about thrift stores for a number of reasons – giving to others, getting great deals, and doing well for the environment to name a few. What are your favorite things about thrift stores? Have you gotten any amazing deals lately?
