I did it! I found another adorable children’s picture book with great illustrations and clever text.
This one is called “Tiger Can’t Sleep.” The tiger in this book is just too cute for words.
Our main character is a little boy who’s getting all ready for bed, snuggled down under the covers. However, his blissful slumber is disturbed because there’s a tiger in his closet, and that tiger is eating potato chips and keeping the little boy awake with all the crunch, crunch, crunching. So he asks the tiger to be quiet. The tiger pulls out a whisk broom, cleans up his mess, and promises to try again.
The boy settles back in his bed, anticipating a good night’s sleep, when Bounce! Bounce! Bounce! Comes from the closet. The tiger was having a little game of one-on-one basketball with himself, but he feels very sorry and he’ll try to be quiet now.
Next comes the kerthump of tiger cartwheels! The boy’s eyes fly open. No way he’ll be able to sleep through that! But Tiger will be quiet now.
Everything settles down and the boy begins to drift off. But now what? A one-man band, played by a tiger? Even with his pillow over his head, the boy can’t possibly sleep through that. He marches over to the closet. He pulls out all the chips, musical instruments and balls, leaving the tiger with absolutely nothing to do. Surely, now he’ll be able to go to sleep!
But Tiger is bored. Click, click. Click, click. Tiger is turning the closet light on and off. On and off. The boy is getting angry, and yells at the tiger to stop.
All is quiet until the boy hears the sound of crying. He asks Tiger what’s wrong, and Tiger tells him that it’s dark in the closet and he’s scared. He asks if he can sleep with the boy, and the boy reluctantly agrees, making one very happy Tiger.
No more noise comes from the closet . . . but now the boy can’t sleep because there’s a tiger snoring in his bed.
