Time-Out for Mom

Moms need time-outs, too. Without them we would go absolutely bonkers. So, how can we take a time-out in the midst of chaos? I’m here to tell you how!

1. Nap when they’re napping: Once in a while, take a nap while your kids are napping. You’re not good to them, your husband or yourself if you’re exhausted.

2. Have silent reading time: Even if your kids can’t read yet, have a time set aside during the day where you all grab a book (or a pile of them) and sit on the couch or a comfortable chair and read quietly. Let the kids look at pictures in their book while you’re reading yours or a good magazine.

3. Schedule one night that’s just for you: When hubby comes home, have one night every couple of weeks set aside that’s just for you. Grab a coffee, get your nails done, just do something that is strictly just for you.

4. Calgon take me away: When the kids are down, take a hot bubble bath. Relax, and enjoy.

5. Stretch: During the day, remember to stretch your neck and tired muscles.

6. Set the mood: Turn on some nice classical music and have the kids draw what they “hear”. While they’re drawing, sit back and fall into bliss.

7. Pick & choose your battles: Don’t battle every little thing with your kids. Let them win sometimes.

8. Let them give you a pedicure: Your kids will love it and you will too. Soak your feet in a bucket of hot water and let your kids massage your feet with lotion and even put on nail polish if you’re brave!

What suggestions do you have that have worked for you? How have you taken a time-out even while the kids are around? We’d love to hear from you!
