Time to Vote?

There are still a few hours left before the polls close for this election. If you haven’t gotten out there to vote, go now! As a single mom I know it is hard to find time to do much of anything, and the thought of dragging your kids along to wait in the long voting lines is less than exciting, but it is our duty as citizens of the United States to exercise this right. It affects the lives of us and our children.

Living in a largely republican state, I have often passed on my right to vote, feeling as if my one little vote didn’t make any difference. While perhaps this is true where I live, I have learned that exercising that right is worth so much more.

Having waited until Election Day to vote, I was wondering how in the world I was going to have time to go wait in the long lines. I had been teaching third graders all day, had put over a hundred miles on my car running errands today alone, and was in desperate need of a nap. I found myself trying to justify skipping the polls on my way home, but in the end I wanted to teach my son how important it was to let your voice be heard. We are so blessed to live in a nation where we have this opportunity.

We ended up being in and out in less than fifteen minutes. Logan was able to see exactly how the whole process worked, I was able to voice my opinion, and we both got a cool voting sticker out of it. I’d say it was a pretty successful day. No matter who you are voting for, it is important to get out there and let your voice be heard. Your children’s future depends on it!
