Timing Is Everything

Paris Hilton’s newest piece of arm candy is causing quite a stir among celebrity watchers and illustrates what can happen if you are at the right place at the right time.

According to the New York Post, 22-year-old Alex Vaggo is going places… mainly in the passenger seat of Hilton’s car.

The good-looking Swedish tourist was standing on the street near the USA Hostel in Hollywood when he was introduced to the hotel heiress. A source tells the newspaper the former jailbird immediately took a liking to him. And, now, the source says, Vaggo is living much better. (Can you say: Hilton upgrade?)

The Post reports that Vaggo had spent more than a week in the $27 a night hostel, which squeezes six guests in a single room, before Hilton swooped in and waved her magic wand. The party princess reportedly introduced Vaggo to a number of Ford Model scouts earlier this week and now he’s getting a taste of the good life.

It’s been a while since Hilton has been snapped with a guy as handsome as Vaggo. A few months ago she was photographed with ex-flame Stavros Niarchos. But, besides an alleged “cuddle session” with 21-year-old Australian clothing entrepreneur Tyler Atkins shortly after her release from jail, things have been rather quiet on the Hilton hook-up front.

Meanwhile, Hilton’s rep insists Paris and her hot foreigner “friend” are just that.

Speaking of being in the right place at the right time… a tabloid reporter got quite an earful from Mariah Carey recently. The pop diva was only too happy to be given the opportunity to sound off about the challenge Diddy (“P. Diddy,” “Puff,” “Puffy,” “Diddy Daddy,” take your pick) issued to some female pop stars who own fragrance lines.

During an appearance where he was promoting his new fragrance, “Unforgivable,” Diddy gave a shout out to a group of female celebrities who also have fragrances on the market, including ex-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani and Mariah Carey.

Employing his trademark in-your-face style, Diddy challenged the sweet smelling singers to a perfume smell off:

“I just told them that my, my fragrance is better then theirs. I like their fragrance but… I invite them to come out, meet me on a Saturday or Sunday on 5th Avenue and we do it like Pepsi blind smell taste. We can do it in front of my Sean John store… Check this out, Britney, JLo, Gwen, Sarah Jessica Parker meet (me) on 5th avenue any time this weekend. My fragrance is launching and we can see whose fragrance is better, yours or mine. And the loser has to pay for the shopping spree.”

He ended with this dig: “I’m a man and I know how women should smell!”

A few days after Diddy issued the challenge a well-placed reporter got a response from Carey who had heard about the competition.

The award-winning singer started off by wishing Diddy “all the best” with his new fragrance. Then, she laid out this hard-hitting response:

“I think we’re actually appealing to different types of women. M by Mariah Carey is about being unforgettable, not unforgivable. It’s not about a one night stand, it’s for the woman who wants the man to fall in love with her immediately, stay in love, and treat her like royalty.”

Double snap! Ouch!
