I’ve mentioned before that my mom owns a cleaning service. She does an impeccable job of cleaning. We’re talking white glove inspection clean. So, whenever she finds a fantastic new cleaning product or discovers new cleaning tips, she shares them with me.
She was recently cleaning vinyl blinds, carefully wiping each slat, yet they weren’t coming clean like she wanted them to. The dust had built up and it was taking forever. As any business owner knows, time is money.
She remembered something my cousin (who owns rental homes) had once told her and decided to give it a try. I’m sure you’ve heard of Scrubbing Bubbles, and while this product is intended for cleaning the bathroom, it apparently works great on vinyl mini blinds too.
Here’s how:
- Remove the blinds from the window and hold them over the tub. Make sure they’re opened to their full length.
- Spray Scrubbing Bubbles onto the slats generously. Allow the product to sit for just a minute or two, and then rinse.
- No scrubbing needed. The dust and dirt comes right off and the Scrubbing Bubbles work their way in between the slats.
- Dry the blinds with a towel or lay them out on a towel to dry, and then hang them back up.
This is a much less tedious, quicker, method than attempting to scrub each slat clean. It’s also a better alternative than soaking blinds in bleach, because after a while bleach can deteriorate the cords.
I have to admit that Scrubbing Bubbles is not my favorite product for cleaning the bathroom, but this tip is definitely worth checking out. Sometimes, products work better in other areas. Just be careful to follow instructions and heed any warnings, and never mix cleaning products.
*Also, it’s worth noting that it’s a good idea to check with the manufacturer before using various cleaning products on blinds and other furnishings, especially if they’re custom or expensive.
