Let’s face it kids are messy! They enjoy affecting the world around them and some even enjoy coloring the world around them. I remember one time I walked out of the room and came back to a child coloring all over the walls. One time my son came running up to me and exclaimed “Mommy, come see what I did!” I went with him to find he colored all over the headboard of his toddler bed. He was just so excited to show me his work of art. I was not so excited. I hated to make him feel bad about his masterpiece but I had to explain the proper place for crayons. Years later my little girl decided to color all over the walls in her room. Thankfully, two of my children never colored on anything but paper. The other two seemed to take Harold and the Purple Crayon to a new level.
Do you have a little crayon artist at home? At some point we all have to clean up a crayon mess. It appears it will never come out but if you use the right stuff it should come out just fine. Here is a list to help you if it happens to you.
Removing Crayon Messes:
Always test a section with the suggestion before applying anything to a large mess. Be especially careful on carpets and painted walls.
Carpet:
Spray with WD-40 and rub with a cloth until removed. You may have to wash again with dish soap and water to remove any residue.
Painted Walls:
Clean with Comet cleanser
Brick:
Spray WD-40 on the area and scrub with a brush and wipe clean.
Cloth:
Wash with dish soap and wipe clean.
Metal:
Just use Comet to remove.
Plastic:
Just wash with liquid dish soap
Porcelain:
Spray with glass cleaner and wipe clean.
Tile:
Wash with dish soap.
Most surfaces will respond to WD-40, Comet or dish soap.
