Tips for Staying Connected During the Holidays

It is way too easy to get sidetracked with holiday preparations, which can lead to one spouse or the other feeling left out. These tips will help make sure your spouse knows you’re thinking of him or her, despite the fact that you are incredibly busy during these last days leading up to Christmas:

  • Mail your spouse a Christmas card with a sweet, handwritten message inside. Sure, you could just give it to him or her, but mailing it will be a surprise and it shows a little extra effort.
  • Slip a treat into your husband or wife’s pocket, bag, or briefcase. A candy cane or a favorite candy bar, gum, a cookie, or anything else you think your spouse will enjoy. Add a note if you like.
  • If your spouse is the one who does most of the cooking, offer to make dinner, or to do the dishes afterward, or surprise him or her with take out.
  • Encourage your spouse to take some time for him or herself and to enjoy an activity he or she hasn’t had time for in a while.
  • Rent your mate’s favorite movie and take the time to watch it with him or her. If you have children, tuck them in first so your spouse can enjoy the movie uninterrupted.
  • Start hiding small gifts here and there for your husband or wife. It really doesn’t have to be anything fancy or expensive, just a little something that says you care. Try to do this each day until Christmas arrives.
  • Set aside some extra time for your spouse. Even though you are very busy, you can squeeze in a few extra moments to catch up with each other. The fact that you set aside other things to be with him or her will ensure that your spouse knows he or she is important.
