Tips for the Perfect Nursery

Every soon-to-be mother and father wants to create the perfect nursery for the new baby. In fact, one of the most exciting aspects of the pregnancy is setting everything up just the way you want it. The theme or coloring of the room is not necessarily the important thing. Instead, a number of items can be added to any room, making it safer, more comfortable, and more practical.

For instance, you might want to consider a nightlight of some type. One option that I would recommend is the two or three-way lamp. With this, you could use the upper portion of the lamp, which actually serves as a standard light fixture. However, by turning that off and switching to a lower, softer light, you now have a beautiful nightlight. The benefit here is that one light fixture is serving two purposes.

Of course, no nursery would be complete without a rocker. Believe me, there will be many nights when both mom and dad need to spend time in the nursery, rocking a fussy baby back to sleep. Therefore, choose something that looks nice in the room but more importantly, a rocker or glider designed for comfort. If you like, you can add a nice padded back and seat, allowing you even more time with the baby.

Another great item for any nursery is books. Even if your baby is brand new, it is never too early to begin reading. In fact, you will find that most newborns just love listening to the sound of mom and dad. To encourage your child for future reading, begin with something you like that the child will grow into. Then, you would of course need a sturdy changing table. Although you could change the baby’s diaper while lying on the crib mattress, remember, this baby is going to grow at which time the mattress would be moved to a lower position for safety. At that time, bending would become near impossible. Therefore, make it easy on you for changing with a nice changing table.

Another item you can never have too many of are swaddling or receiving blankets. These thin blankets are ideal for swaddling the baby, providing him or her with a sense of warmth and security. Because of dirty diapers and spit up, you will probably go through many so keep extra on hand. Then, I would recommend some type of musical gadget. This might be in the form of a musical mobile over the crib, a rocking music box that sits on the railing of the crib while moving forward and backward, or a music box that sits on the side table.
