As I was reading about food and travel, I came across some really, good ideas about what to eat when traveling. I thought about how to plan meals when traveling by car so that we ate bigger meals early in the day and made those meals the least expensive by choosing breakfast buffets and so on. However, there are several other things to consider when you are going to put many miles between you and home, actually spending most of that time in the car.
One of the things we always tried to do was choose a motel or hotel that was slightly above average in price that also offered a breakfast that was included in the price of the room. Many of the motel chains have full breakfast available for guests. Therefore, if you are lucky enough to find the right one, you might even come up with a complete, hot breakfast menu.
Even the smaller, less-expensive motels often have pastries, fruit, juice, and coffee, which can be excellent for those first couple of hours on the road until everyone is awake enough to eat a larger meal. Keep in mind that the first big meal could be a larger breakfast or even the noon meal, if your family members can wait that long. Now, some other things to consider when you are on the road and you are getting hungry:
-Carry some snack foods and drinks with you for those times when you can’t find a place to eat, or for late night travel
-Don’t be afraid to eat where the locals eat. Most of the time, food is less expensive than chain restaurants and often more delicious
-If you don’t know where to eat and can’t find a place that looks good, ask one of the local residents. They will know!
