With the cold and flu season coming on, it is a good idea to keep an eye on how much you may be spending on tissues. I bet you never stopped to think about it, right? Well, read this article to find out all about how you can save on tissues.
Square versus rectangle
You do actually get fewer tissues in a square box than you do for a rectangular box, and you’ll be paying more per tissue. That is because most people prefer the square boxes for their compact size. There are about half the amount of tissues. If you really love those square boxes, you can reuse one and fill it with tissues from a large box. Just carefully open one of the sides of the square box, fold a stack of tissues in half and insert it into the box with the fold facing up. Tape the box shut until you need to refill it again.
Generic versus brand names
Yes, brand name tissues generally cost more. However, it is one thing that I find hard to compromise on. The less expensive tissues tend to be rough, and they fall apart. My strategy is to stock up at the warehouse store and to combine store and manufacturer coupons.
Toilet paper instead?
Most toilet paper is less expensive to use than tissues, but this will depend on the brand. The really soft stuff (toilet paper) can be just as expensive as a box of tissues, anyway. You also have to factor in how much you use.
Do you need lotion filled tissues?
I generally skip the lotion-filled tissues and just use baby cream or vaseline for noses that are sore. While lotion tissues really do help, they also tend to leave a greasy mess on faces, glasses and more. They also tend to cost twice as much as the regular tissues.
