Valentine’s Day Emoticons
Are your kids glued to the computer? Do you have to send them an Instant Message to tell them dinner is ready? Do they communicate with their friends in a strange language consisting of strings of letters that don’t make any sense? (Hint: TTFN = Ta Ta For Now = See You Later).
They might be perfect candidates for an electronic Valentine from….you! Yes, Mom or Dad can invade that hallowed space of electronic socialization usually reserved for peers. Yes, your kids should learn the value of a hand-written note. Yes, you should probably make them read a book. Yes, when you were a kid, you had to walk three miles in the snow with a hot potato in your pocket to keep your fingers from freezing off just to talk to a friend.
But push all that stuff aside and invade your kids’ turf with a electronic message of love. Your kid will be happily surprised, and you will be too hip to be square, at least for one day. And because you want to do it right, here are some emoticons to use in your Valentine message.
Try writing phrases including emoticons such as, Sealed with a :-* or pepper your messages with some common emoticons that all computer-savvy kids should know. Translations are in the parentheses.
