One of my favorite shows to watch is “While You Were Out” on TLC. The premise of the show is someone trying to surprise a loved one by having a room in their home redecorated while they are away. The unsuspecting person is sent away for the weekend and while they are gone their home is taken over by the While You Were Out crew and a room is redecorated especially for you.
My favorite episode of this show was one done in New York where a man had his backyard re-done for his wife. Before the show the backyard was essentially a mud pit. Afterward it was really somewhere you would want to spend all of your time. There was grass growing and a wonderful lighting set-up.
I think show’s like this one are great because they can give you a lot of ideas on how to decorate your own home, and often they give you step by step instructions on how to do so. I have gotten a lot of ideas for every room in my house as well as my outdoors from programs like this one.
While You Were Out is especially neat because in most cases the person who the redecorating is being done for has no idea the redecorating is taking place. When they come home you can see their true reaction to the change. In most cases the person is excited about their new room, in some cases however they are absolutely livid at their loved one for allowing a crew to destroy their space.
Regardless, the show is all entertaining and full of tons of fantastic inexpensive decorarating tips you can take to use in your own home.
While You Were Out airs on TLC at various times throughout the week. Check your local television listing to find out when it airs in your area
