Well, this question has more to do with the timing than whether or not we will plant a garden. I am in no hurry, after having lost almost our entire beautiful garden last year to a cold snap. I’ll wait a while. However, I am getting antsy. Since there are some things that can be done in advance, I’m going to get started.
First, it pays to prepare the soil. I can get the soil turned over and start nurturing it now. The ground is very soft, so it’s easier to do now. When it’s dry here, digging is quite a challenge.
If you have fencing in place, check to see if it needs any repairs. Make those repairs now, before planting time. On the other hand, if you intend to use fencing and it isn’t already in place, now is a good time to get your fences together.
Starter plants are also a good idea as is an indoor herb garden. If you don’t have a lot of extra space, simply begin planting some of the plants that can go into the ground earlier than others then move onto something else when those are transplanted.
You can buy divided containers, very similar to those that starter plants come in when you purchase them already started. You can use cups or other containers but the former will generally take less space as they are designed in small trays that can conveniently be moved outdoors for sunshine on warm days.
Follow the directions and plant the seeds. Be careful not to over water. Before long, you should have small plants that you’ll soon be able to transplant outside in your garden. I can’t wait for fresh fruit, vegetables, and herbs.
The answer is definitely “to garden.” The real question is when…
