In the book of John, chapter 6, we read:
66. From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
67. Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?
68. Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
Truly, where else would we go to find the light and truth we receive from our relationship with Jesus Christ? No one else has it. No one else can give us eternal life, seal us to our families, buoy us up day after day. No religious icon, no self-help guru, no diet and exercise diva – no one can give us what Christ gives us. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
Living in this world is very hard. We are bombarded on every side by challenges, trials, and problems. There have been days when I’ve been tempted to just give up. But then the thought occurs, if I were to give up, what would I do instead?
My answer? I have no idea. I have been fighting this fight for so long, if I were to throw in the towel, I have no clue what I would do instead.
It’s certain that the moments of joy I experience would end. Those moments are gifts to me from the Savior to encourage me and tell me to keep at it. I know I would stop feeling happiness at my accomplishments. My tasks would become meaningless because I would no longer be aiming for an eternal goal. Caring for my family would lose its savor because I would no longer be serving an eternal family.
Believing in Christ, loving Him, serving Him and listening to His words are the things that make life wonderful. We can’t find life’s solutions in a bottle, on the radio, or at a spa. He alone has the words of eternal life. Where else would we go? Nowhere. If we aren’t with Him, we are truly nowhere.
How blessed I feel to have the knowledge that it is through my relationship with Christ that I find my greatest joy. When I am close to my Savior, everything is better. Literally, the sky is more blue, the flowers more beautiful, the snow more crystalline and lovely. The love of the Lord magnifies and enriches everything we experience. Life is a joy to live when you’re living it with eternal principles in mind. He provides all and is all. How grateful I am for that.
