Happy Veteran’s Day and my sincere thanks to all those who have defended this country and the freedoms we so often take for granted. I hope every American will take at least a moment to remember and honor those who have given so much to protect our country and our way of life.
Does your family do anything special on this day? Did your kids do anything special this week (National Veterans Awareness Week) at school?
It seems like schools don’t do quite as much to recognize our heroes these days, at least not like I remember it when I was a kid. Maybe at that time teachers still remembered the sacrifices made by those who fought under our flag. One might think that such things would be fresh in their minds today considering that we have added many new Veterans to the list since then and in fact recently.
I’m afraid that political correctness has led many teachers to shy away from honoring our heroes, those still living and those who have died serving this country, because some people are opposed to the war. Frankly, no one likes war, especially those who put life and limb on the line. Some people just believe it is a necessary evil, and we thank those who put on the uniform and fight in our place.
I encourage parents to teach their kids that Veterans are worthy of respect and recognition, whether or not your local schools honor them, and to applaud schools or teachers that do.
Without the brave men and women who made up and currently make up our troops, many more lives would be needlessly lost. They put themselves in the position of dying in my place and yours, perfectly willing to die if that’s what it takes to secure and defend freedom. If that isn’t action worthy of recognition, honor, and appreciation then I can’t think of much that is.
Thank you for your service, American Veterans.
Don’t forget our TROOPS during the holiday season.
