It can be difficult to get toddlers to eat. Most are finicky eaters and do not like to try new foods. Several toddlers only want their favorite foods and complain about trying different foods. Making “fun foods” can help convince your toddlers to try new and healthy foods and snacks. Let’s look at some “fun food” ideas:
Fun Shaped Sandwiches
Take any peanut butter and jelly sandwich and cut it with a cookie cutter for an instant favorite. Use cookie cutters for ham and cheese sandwiches, tuna salad sandwiches or any kind of sandwich that your child eats. If it is cut into a fun shape, they are probably going to love it.
Pancake Faces
Pancakes make great faces. Use fruit, whipped cream and syrup to make a cute smiley face atop any pancake. This also works on waffles and French toast.
Finger Foods and Dipping Sauces
Sliced apples, celery sticks, graham cracker sticks and carrots all make great finger foods. Use a veggie dip or peanut butter for dipping to make this a super fun snack.
String Cheese and Crackers
A lot of kids love string cheese. It is fun to play with and delicious as well. Serve alone or with crackers. These come pre-packaged for busy moms and kids. Toss into the lunch bag or picnic basket for a quick snack on any day out.
Character Shaped Pasta
The pasta industry has made fun foods easy for moms. With character shaped pasta in ready to make mixes, these are a great side dish to any meal. Variations of character pastas are also available in canned goods.
Hot Dog Octopus
By taking a hot dog and slicing it two thirds of the length in half and then halving the “legs” twice more to make eight “legs.” Boil the sliced hot dog and the “legs” will curl up, making the whole appear to be an octopus. Serve over baked beans, pasta or mashed potatoes.
