How do you store your cleaning supplies? Do you even give any thought to how you store them? I know I don’t think about it much, I store them here, there and everywhere. Under the kitchen sink of course, then there is a tote in the linen closet, each bathroom has stuff to keep the toilet clean. In each location as well I have a bag of cleaning rags, I don’t want to run to another room to wipe down the bathroom counters.
The biggest issues with storing cleaners are safety ones. Are there little ones in your house who can make their way to your cleaning supplies? If there are, I think cleaners should never be stored below waist height. Most toddlers quickly learn how to circumvent baby safety locks and this is one case where it’s better to remove the dangerous substance rather than hope the lock works. It may be hard to find a place to store your cleaning supplies that is above waist level but it is certainly worth the effort. After all, where is it written that cleaning supplies have to be under the sink?
If your plastic storage containers are in a higher cabinet just switch places with the cleaners. Once you have scrubbed the cabinet under the sink it is just as good as anywhere else to store things. And as a bonus, if you have a cabinet in the kitchen your baby or toddler can play in they may just leave the other cabinets alone.
If it’s not possible to store them higher in the kitchen what about in the linen closet? Can you move sheets and towels down and put your cleaning bucket up higher? Or the hall closet, put a basket on the floor for all those gloves, hats and scarves and store your cleaners on the top shelf.
Your cleaners may not be as accessible but babies are small for a short time so the extra precaution is worth a little inconvenience.
